Beach Volleyball America (BVA) Enters New Season With Sponsorship Growth

Outpost.com, SPEEDO, MIKASA, and Allsport Photography Onboard for 2001

POWAY, CALIF. (Dec. 07, 2000) - Beach Volleyball America (BVA), the official men's and women's professional beach volleyball tour in the United States, as recognized by USA Volleyball, announced today that SPEEDO, along with previously announced MIKASA Sports, has extended their sponsorship through the 2004 season, according to BVA Chief Executive Officer Charlie Jackson. In addition Allsport Photography joins Outpost.com as official sponsors.

Entering the 2001 season, the BVA Tour will include eight events and visit cities such as Miami Beach and Clearwater, Florida, Manhattan Beach, California and Honolulu, Hawaii. The tour will kick off in April and conclude in Honolulu for the BVA Tour Championships in mid September, with a complete schedule to be announced at a later date. All tournaments will be televised both nationally and internationally. The 2001 BVA Tour will include the world's top women's beach volleyball players including, Olympic stars Jenny Johnson Jordan, Misty May, and 2-time Olympian Holly McPeak. For the first time, the world's top international men will participate and will feature 5-time World Champion and Olympian Sinjin Smith, and 1999 U.S. Olympic Cup Gold Medalists, Kevin Wong and Rob Heidger. They will be joined by Olympic stars, Carl Henkel, Jeff Nygaard and Dan Landry.

"The long-term commitments of our marketing partners, who recognize the value of our business, are very significant to our tour," said Jackson. "These high-profile companies demonstrate the viability of the BVA as a strong marketing vehicle to reach sports fans across the country."

The BVA Tour provides elite beach volleyball athletes with opportunities to compete and practice in the U.S. to prepare for major international and Olympic competition. The BVA Tour is recognized by the Federation de Volleyball (FIVB) the governing body for men's and women's beach volleyball worldwide. The top BVA athletes represent the U.S. on the FIVB World Tour, the official qualification tour for the Olympic Games.

SPEEDO renewed its commitment in October with a long-term licensing agreement to produce the Official BVA Tour Apparel and licensed merchandise for the BVA. SPEEDO will assume exclusive merchandising rights to all tour merchandise to be sold on site at 2001-2004 tour events and in the SPEEDO/Authentic Fitness retail stores nationwide. In addition, SPEEDO has built relationships with the top BVA athletes, including Olympians, Davis, Jordan, May, McPeak, Barbra Fontana and Wong.
